Issue

If you are receiving an error like the below when trying to assign unit elements:

There is likely someone in your unit whose primary unit is outside your control (so their unit elements are managed elsewhere).

Workaround

You should be able to edit members' unit elements if you use the filter options to prevent the member you are not permitted from updating from showing. For some reason the system generates an error whenever that member/s is showing, even when you are not directly editing them.

For example, you could filter to Scope: Cadet or by different names or ranks.

You will need to use the filters to remove that member from view when editing Unit Elements. If the member is visible, then you won't be able to submit changes. For example, you could filter to Scope: Cadet to make changes to cadet members (if the offending member is a Staff member - which they usually are).
